Core Services

Core ServicesEntitlements & Development Services are provided through the Current Planning Division.  The Current Planning Division oversees all development applications from the concept plan stage to the final stage of permit approval.  In doing so, staff works with the development community, residents, and property owners to collaborate and provide recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council.  Current Planning staff responds to development-related requests for information and is responsible for approving administrative level applications.  Staff also performs routine analysis on the viability of future projects and negotiates with developers to ensure the highest quality of development for the City.

Property Management is responsible for the acquisition, management, and disposition of properties and rights-of-way for the City.  The division manages City initiated enterprise projects and is the City’s liaison on matters relating to public lands.  This division also provides real estate services to the Redevelopment Agency.

Redevelopment is a separate agency established by the City to revitalize specific areas of the community.  Revenues and expenditures for this core service are accounted for in the Redevelopment Agency Special Revenue Fund.  Redevelopment continues to look for opportunities to revitalize and improve older areas of the City and provides financial assistance to new public/private partnership projects within the designated redevelopment areas. 

Regional Collaboration & Plan Development is supported by the Long Range Planning and Regional Planning divisions.  Long Range Planning staff works with property owners, residents, and city departments, as well as elected and appointed officials to develop and implement plans to address current and future growth and changing City dynamics.  The division also takes a comprehensive and collaborative approach to regional planning activities in the Las Vegas valley by working with various regional planning agencies.  The Demographics Services section of Long Range Planning maintains census information and prepares population estimates.  GIS staff within the division supports the activities of the department by conducting analysis and preparing a variety of maps.

Support Services is responsible for the coordination of the Planning Commission meetings, as well as other public meetings and workshops.  This includes preparing and posting meeting agendas in accordance with NRS requirements, as well as, making meeting information available on the City’s website.  This division is also responsible for preparing and monitoring the department’s annual budget and providing a variety of support functions to department staff.
