Henderson, Nev. – The city of Henderson is entering the final phases of the Eastern Avenue Rehabilitation Project, between Pebble Road and Reunion Drive. The finishing touches to the project entail resurfacing the asphalt and adding pavement markings on the roadway between Reunion Drive and Horizon Ridge Parkway, both northbound and southbound.

The final push of the project will take place during the first two weekends in September. In an effort to complete the project as quickly as possible, the city is working with its paving contractor to conduct two short paving weekends rather than four full weeks of evening resurfacing work.

Paving will take place around-the-clock between 8 p.m. on Friday evening and 6 a.m. on Monday morning September 5-8 and 12-15. The first weekend will focus on resurfacing the lanes closest to the median in each direction and the second weekend will complete the work on the outside lanes, closest to the curb, in the same area. During paving each weekend, traffic flow will be redirected to the outside or inside lanes in each direction and opened back up to full roadway access each Monday.

“Eastern Avenue has some of the highest traffic counts in Henderson,” said Tom Davy, project manager. “But making the effort to conduct the work during overnight hours and keeping lanes open during daytime travel, has helped this project move along smoothly.”

To date, the project has included the addition of fiber and conduit for traffic signal control and incident management cameras. Installation of this equipment will allow the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s (RTC) FAST (Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation) engineers to better oversee intersection issues along the Eastern Avenue corridor and improve traffic flow in the area.

Residents and businesses have been updated on the project through door-to-door flyers, a project Web site, homeowner association board meetings, the city of Henderson “Neighborhood Matters” newsletter, project fact sheets and a project hotline. Consultants will continue to work with project managers to keep residents and business owners up-to-date on project progress.
