Henderson, Nev. – The city of Henderson Police Department is hosting its "National Night Out" event at the Henderson Events Plaza on August 5, showcasing the community's resolve against crime.

"National Night Out" is an annual event held across the country involving police departments, civic groups, community organizations, local governments, and others, showing criminals that residents are active in making their neighborhoods safe. In 2007, more than 35.5 million people attended "National Night Out" events.

"Henderson residents have proven that ‘National Night Out' is a fun and effective way to learn about crime prevention, partner with their Police Department, and meet their neighbors," said Henderson Police Chief Richard Perkins. "The benefit of getting to know your neighbors extends well beyond just one night out of the year. When you know your neighbors, you instinctively keep an eye out for each other and call the police when something just doesn't look right."

The Police Department is proud to host its event on August 5 at the Henderson Events Plaza in front of the Henderson Convention Center. The event will feature crime prevention information, members of specialized Henderson Police units, live entertainment, free hotdogs and ice cream, and a great opportunity to meet others in the community who want to keep Henderson a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

Eldorado Casino, owned by Boyd Gaming, has teamed up with the Police Department during National Night Out and will be supplying the event with food and drinks. Live entertainment will be provided by the local group "Sin City Surfers" playing surf music during the event.

"National Night Out" is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that the residents are organized and will fight back.

Please join the city of Henderson Police Department on August 5, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., for "National Night Out."
