Inmate Visitation: Can I visit an inmate?
Inmate’s can be visited once they have been moved to a housing unit or after 24 hours in custody—whichever comes first.
Inmates are permitted to have two visits per week. Visiting hours are 8:00am to 11:00am or 1:00pm to 4:00pm Wednesday thru Sunday*. There is a limit of two adults per visit. Children are allowed to visit but must be supervised by an adult at all times. Each visit is twenty minutes long. Visits may be recorded.
Visitors must present valid, government issued identification and must be dressed appropriately:
Cell phones, purses, backpacks, food and drink are not allowed in the lobby. You may not visit an inmate against whom you have taken a protective order. *Please note that kitchen workers may not receive visits while they are in the kitchen serving or handling food. It is up to the kitchen worker to communicate this to family and/or friends.
Visitation will also be available on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Visits on a holiday will count toward the inmate’s limit of two visits per week.
Inmate Phone Calls: Are inmate calls free?
Only those calls made during the intake process are free. Once an inmate is assigned to a housing unit, all calls—except for special circumstances—cost the person being called a fee:

Inmate Money: Can an inmate use their money to buy items from the Detention Center’s Commissary?
Inmates are allowed to use money in their commissary account to purchase snacks and sundries from the Detention Center’s Commissary. Inmates place their order on Sunday and receive the merchandise the following Friday. If the order comes in after the inmate is released, the inmate has five (5) days to pick it up. Orders remaining after 5 days will be inventoried and disposed of accordingly.
Inmate Money: How do I put funds on an inmate’s account?
You may place funds on an inmate’s account by bringing a money order to the Detention Center Lobby at 18 E Basic Road, Henderson, NV 89015. The lobby is open daily from 8:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 5:00pm. There is a limit of $100.00 per money order.

Money orders are placed immediately on an inmate’s account whether received in the lobby or by mail. The inmate will receive a copy of the deposit slip by the next day. Any funds not used will be given to the inmate in cash upon release.

Inmates receive mail Monday thru Thursday. Please note that holidays may cause a delay in delivery.

All incoming mail—except for legal mail—will be opened and inspected for contraband. Please do not send the following:
A small number of appropriate photos may be sent to the inmate. Soft cover books sent directly from the publisher or book store are acceptable; however, no materials of an explicit sexual nature or pertaining to the purchase or assembling of weapons or inciting persons to commit or promote violent actions are allowed. Any letter or card with items listed above and any contraband items will be placed in the inmate’s property and given to the inmate upon release.
Any mail received after an inmate has been released will be returned to sender. We do not hold or forward mail.
Inmate Property: How do I get an inmate’s property released?
You may come to the Detention Center Lobby with valid photo identification. (Lobby hours are 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm daily to request a property release. For property release when the lobby is closed, please go to the walk up window on the west side of the lobby and press the silver button for help.) Inmates have the option of releasing property and funds or just property. Please note that there are no partial releases of property.
A property release can take from a half hour to an hour and a half depending on how busy the lobby is. You must stay in the lobby until the property release is completed.
Please note that if we are holding the inmate for Boulder City, Clark County, U.S. Marshalls or Immigration, you must contact those agencies for information about property releases.
Immigration Detainees: Do you have immigration detainees at the Henderson Detention Center?
The Henderson Detention Center houses immigration detainees. You may write to, visit with, and place funds on a detainee’s account as with any other inmate. However, for information regarding a detainee’s case, property or deportation please contact:

Inmate Health Information: My friend/relative has a health problem that I would like the medical staff to be aware of. Who do I call?
Due to privacy concerns the medical staff cannot discuss an inmate’s health with family or friends. However, if you would like to share information about an inmate with our medical staff, please call the Detention Center and ask for ext. 4674. Please leave a message with your name and phone number. The medical staff checks for messages daily and will return your call.
Inmate Health Information: Can I bring an inmate’s prescription medication to the jail?
Prescription medications cannot be brought into the jail. Inmates go through a health screening at the time booking and are asked about medications. The medical staff will provide necessary prescriptions. However, if you would like to help the medical staff get medication more quickly, you can bring the prescriptions to the Detention Center Lobby and ask to speak with a nurse or you can call 267-5245 and ask for extension 4674.
Inmate Vehicle Release: How do I get an inmate’s car released from the towing company?
The legal owner of a vehicle is the person whose name is on the title. If an inmate owns the vehicle that was towed, you may bring valid photo identification to the Detention Center Lobby at 18 East Basic Road, Henderson, Nevada, 89015. Lobby hours are 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm daily. If you need the vehicle released outside of lobby hours, please go to the walk up window on the west side of the lobby and press the silver button Please note that if the inmate is being held for Boulder City, Clark County, U.S. Marshalls or Immigration, you will need to contact those agencies.
Inmate Release: When are inmates released?
The Henderson Detention Center has three release times: 3:00am 10:00am 9:00pm
Inmates are released from the door to the east of the Lobby. Release times are approximate based on how busy the Detention Center is. Please be patient and be prepared to wait a little while. Our staff will release the inmates as soon as possible.
Inmate Release: I will be serving my time on weekends. When will I be released?
Weekend inmates will be released at approximately the same time they came into the jail.
Notarization: I have a paper that I need an inmate to sign and it must be notarized. Do you have notaries at the Detention Center?
Notaries are available at the Detention Center. Please mail the paperwork you need signed to the inmate. The inmate may request to have the document notarized and can then mail you the document. If the paperwork is urgent (for example, giving Power of Attorney to a relative for an inmate’s children), you may bring the paperwork to the lobby from 8am to 12:00 and 1pm to 5pm daily. We require 24 hours have the document signed, notarized and returned to the lobby.
